Nexitron Monthly Devlog (6/1/25)


Hey hey everyone! I've been pretty busy behind the scenes with this game, so there's a LOT to talk about for Update 2.0/Chapter Two! Let's jump right in!

Nexitron City NPC Submissions! 

If you didn't know, I opened up submissions to have peoples cubes become an NPC in Nexitron City! I needed a ton of NPC's and figured to make it easier and fun, I'd have people from the community submit their icons to become NPCs that walk around Nexitron City!

As of today, all of the submissions have been created and put into the game! Thanks to everyone that submitted a icon! :)

Update 2.0 and it's progress!

Lots of new stuff has been added since then! Here's what's been added so far!

Cubey and Melty Emotes!!

Cubey and Melty have both been given a full sprite sheet of Emotes that happen in the game! The sprites change throughout the game and add a ton to the emotion and makes the game and characters feel way more alive! These sprites are only for Cubey and Melty, since they are the main two. But for the ones that have been coded in so far, it adds so much more personality! Speaking of new Sprite Sheets...

New NPC's and previous character art improvements!

A TON of new NPC's were created during this month! Including a mix of the Submissions from last month, some revisions of some already existing ones, and the creation of new ones!

The secret character: "Forlorn" was given animated frames! Making him feel more alive instead of being consistently static.

A few characters were reworked as well! Making the game feel a lot more consistent and lively! Some adjustments were made to previously existing NPC's, mostly in terms of color, so the color palette is consistent throughout all NPC's.


Nexitron City is finished!

Nexitron City's map is finally complete! It took around 3 weeks to get the layout and art done, and 2 whole days to get the lighting! Rest assured, Nexitron City is now fully finished and filled with exploration! More places will be worked on!

New Item type: ARMOR!

As seen in the Nexitron City sneak peek revealed, we've added armor! This adds a bit of complexity to the game, as well as having a ton of new things to buy for your party members! What will Cubey and Melty wear to help them on their journey?

New Quality of Life and tons of changes

A ton of new adjustments, and Quality of Life changes have been added.

  • A ton of balancing changes to battles and enemies. This was done to balance the game to adjust to the new armor items.
  • The Attack input system has been adjusted to finally function as it was intended! How many correct inputs you make determines the strength of the attack!
  • Some art assets have been adjusted! All of the mountain art has been slightly adjusted so the shadows in the art aligns with the engine shadows!
  • The biggest one... THE CODE INPUT HAS BEEN FIXED!! The previous method with the large name input has been removed, and was changed to the originally intended method of just a number input! This method was used in The Lost Levels Tech Demo, and didn't work for whatever reason in the full version. However, the problem was found and the solution has been resolved! Inputting codes is much more streamlined and easy!

So what’s next?

The fun is just beginning! Tons of exciting new things are being added to make the gameplay experience much more enjoyable by everyone! I'll be sure to update you guys more on future developments! I've got a schedule going and trying to be more organized! So stay tuned for more news! in the future! But before I go... I did want to talk about one more thing that's very important.

Development change of Direction.

I've sat and thought about taking the development of 2.0 in a different direction as planned. And after a lot of thought and consideration, I've made a decision that I feel is best for the sake of the games health and to keep the hype going! That being said... Update 1.2 is planned to happen! Originally, I had planned to not do any update until then, but I've decided I want to do this for a multitude of reasons. One, the game in it's current published state is way too outdated, and I'm honestly tired of seeing it when there's a version of the product that's so much better now LOL.Not only that, but releasing a 1.2 update would resolve the problem of having future versions having incompatible save files! Meaning that going into 2.0 from a possible 1.2 would not make your save files void. So, the new plan of development is this:

Update 1.2 will release in the summer! Including all the QOL fixes, Visual improvements, and the updated story! This will NOT include anything from Chapter Two however, and certain things will be taken out of the game files to prevent spoilers. (I do this with every update so this isn't anything new lol)

Chapter 2 will be made in it's entirety, along with the assets for Chapter 3! This would mean as chapter 2 launches, I'll already have the stuff prepared for Chapter 3, meaning less of a wait in between chapters!!

Chapter 2 is PLANNED (not expected) to release in Winter 2025/2026. I'm hoping Update 1.2 will be able to hold you guys off until then, especially since Save File Transfers will be compatible!

So yeah! That's the new plan! I hope you guys are looking forward to the new update! :D
